Stevenage Band Contest - March 2004In March the band again made the annual pilgrimage to Hertfordshire's premier entertainment resort, Stevenage. Despite the ungodly hour of departure from Hangleton a good time was had by all. The band was placed 13th from 17 Bands, a lower result than was hoped for, but still something to be proud of in our first year in the Third Section. A Night at the Movies - July 2004In July the band went all out to put on a concert with a difference. The result was 'A Night at the Movies', at the Windmill Theatre at Blatchington Mill School. The programme for the evening was made up entirely of film music, and to complete the cinematic theme large film images were projected behind the band during pieces. Band Barbeque - August 2004The 2004 band barbeque was held at the Hangleton Manor in traditional overcast weather (but very little rain luckily!). As usual the band played a mini concert in the public garden before retiring to the private garden for the usual fun and games. This year saw the return of the inflatable table football pitch, and some great ‘school sports day' games organised by our two would-be red coats, Rachel and Geoff. Folkestone Band Contest - October 2004Band Christmas Concert - December 2004The Christmas Concert was a very special occasion this year as it marked the end of Christine Nonoo's time as our Musical Director. Never ones to let an opportunity for some public humiliation pass by we decided to spring a suprise 'This is Your Band Life' on our unwitting conductor in the middle of the performance! Other highlights of the concert included some very dubious drag queens, a trimbrel troupe and a dancing snowman... Band Christmas Meal - December 2004The 2004 Christmas took place at the Imperial Hotel in Hove. As has become tradition it also served as the venue for the glittering 2004 Hangleton Band Awards. The Hangleton Brass Band
The Hangleton Band is an active, modern, brass band based in Hangleton, on the outskirts of the city of Brighton and Hove, in Sussex, England, UK. We have both an active Senior and Youth Band and take our membership from a wide cross section of the local community. There are currently around 80 members, some of whom play in both bands, with a group of young learners constantly feeding into the Youth Band, which alone has 50 members
We are the only brass band in the City of Brighton and Hove with charitable status and operate as a single entity with all proceeds from fundraising, concerts and subscriptions being spent on the band, rather than being targeted at any individuals or sections. We have a large repertoire of music with anything from Mozart to Miller to Mercury!
Historically, the policy of the Hangleton Band is to provide an instrument and tuition for any child who wants to learn, giving them the opportunity to learn without the cost of having to buy an instrument (which can be very expensive, sometimes costing up to several thousand pounds!)
Many members of the Hangleton Senior Band give up their time and energies to teach the learners and help the youngsters in the Youth Band.
Youth players range from 8 year old beginners to 18 year old grade 8 musicians, while the Senior Band ranges from talented 13 year olds to an age when it is impolite to be specific!
The Hangleton Band is currently a SCABA (Southern Counties Amateur Bands Association) second section band and competes in the Third Section nationally (promoted 2002).
We play a range of concerts over the year for our own stalwart supporters, and for different audiences in the immediate locality and around the county.
